Packing gauge

Depth is type-high or it is furniture.

Maren reads remaining groove depth with a packing gauge we keep honest against a steel step, not against a thumbnail.

Walls still square. The ball can climb the face and stay. We leave the chase locked.

Depth remains, shoulders rounding. Recut if the mill still has metal. If not, retire.

The gauge bottoms. Polish will only make a photograph. We stamp retire on the ticket.
